Next Application Round: submit before 1 December 2025
Gastrostart
Gastrostart provides seed grants with a maximum amount of €10,000. The grant is intended exclusively for early-stage and innovative research in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology, and only for members (as project leader or principal applicant) who have been members of the NVGE or NASL for at least one year. Applicants are specifically asked to address not only the innovative character of the project but also its risk-bearing aspect (i.e., reasons why the project may not be considered fundable by other funding bodies).
The purpose of the grant is to enable researchers to conduct preparatory studies or to establish techniques that may serve as the basis for a well-founded funding application to MLDS or another funding agency.
Revised Criteria
The assessment criteria have been slightly modified compared to previous years. As of now, an additional requirement is that the project leader must be an early-career researcher who obtained their PhD within the past five years (as calculated on the closing date of the Gastrostart deadline). For medical specialists, a maximum period of five years after completion of specialist training applies.
Funding cannot be requested for salary expenses or for the purchase of (research) equipment. In principle, no grants will be awarded for research activities or internships abroad. Exceptions may be made only if the main focus of the research is based in the Netherlands. Applications are reviewed by the Gastrostart Committee. If necessary, external experts may be consulted.
Each applicant may submit only one application per round.
No correspondence will be entered into regarding the outcome of the review process.
